Laminated glass is a composite glass product made of two or more glass sheets with one or more layers of organic polymer interlayer film sandwiched in between. It undergoes special high-temperature pre-pressing (or vacuuming) and high-temperature and high-pressure processing, which permanently bonds the glass and interlayer film together. Even if the glass shatters, the fragments will remain adhered to the film, keeping the broken glass surface clean and smooth. This effectively prevents injuries and incidents caused by glass shards and ensures personal safety.
(1) High safety: Due to the fact that the fragments of laminated glass remain firmly bonded to the interlayer (PVB film) even after accidental breakage, it greatly reduces the harm caused to people and property by glass shards. Especially when laminated glass is used in various new, unique, and special vertical, inclined, and irregular buildings, it can prevent the harm caused by accidental glass breakage and falling.
(2) Strong security protection: Laminated glass can withstand repeated external impacts, and its multi-layer structure can even resist heavy objects or bullet attacks. The protective effect of laminated glass can even extend to blocking the shock waves generated by bomb explosions, minimizing harm to people.
(3) Excellent sound insulation and noise reduction performance: The interlayer (PVB film) of laminated glass has good sound insulation and noise reduction properties. Its sound insulation performance is several times stronger than ordinary glass, reducing the noise emitted by airplanes, cars, and machinery, creating a pleasant and comfortable internal environment, which is highly beneficial for high-tech work, living, and health in the 21st century.
(4) Good UV shielding performance: Laminated glass can block over 99% of harmful rays in sunlight, which greatly helps protect people's skin health and prevent indoor furnishings, furniture, exhibits, and goods from being damaged by UV radiation.
(5) Decorative beauty: Laminated glass has now developed towards decorative types. The PVB films used in manufacturing come in various colors and varieties in domestic and international markets. Laminated glass made with these diverse films is not only safe and practical but also vibrant and colorful, enhancing the aesthetic effect of various buildings.
(6) Strong structural integrity: Years of production, use, and destructive testing have shown that laminated glass is one of the most outstanding members of the glass family. It not only possesses the necessary performance of glass but also maintains its integrity even when broken, with very few glass fragments causing injuries or damage. It is the preferred glass material used in various fields such as architecture, transportation, and aerospace in the 21st century.
(7) Energy-saving: Building laminated glass made with functional PVB films can effectively reduce the penetration of sunlight and lower cooling energy consumption. Laminated glass made with dark, low light transmittance PVB films of the same thickness has a stronger ability to block heat.
