Glass canopies provide an attractive and practical feature to a building. Typically set outside the entrance door, canopies protect people entering the building and allow natural light to pass through the entrance area. This feature can be achieved by providing a line of sight through the entrance into the lobby area. Clear glass is a popular choice, but other glazing options also work well.
Most glass canopies will use clear / low iron tempered laminated glass. Tempered laminated glass is composed of at least two panes of tempered glass by polyvinyl butyral film. Tempered laminated glass has a much higher thermal shock resistance than float laminated glass. When the pane breaks, the small fragments with blunt edges generally remain stuck to the polyvinyl butyral film. It is difficult to pierce the film, which considerably reduce the risk of injury.
